I see you're displaying a random frame so this method of extracting a single frame will work fine.

def generate_frame(in_filename, out_filename, time, width):    
    (
        ffmpeg
        .input(in_filename, ss=time)
        .filter('scale', width, -1)
        .filter('pad',width,height,-1,-1)
        .output(out_filename, vframes=1)              
        .overwrite_output()
        .run(capture_stdout=True, capture_stderr=True)
    )

I see you're displaying a random frame so this method of extracting a single frame will work fine. I found this method to produce unreliable results if you're trying to step through the file frame by frame and instead needed to use ffmpeg screenshots.
